Meta launched their new AI app recently, and I immediately thought of the potential for advertisers.
Yes, it’s another AI assistant that you can talk to and get help creating stuff. But something stood out…
The Social Feed
What’s unique about the Meta AI app compared to other virtual assistants is that it utilizes a social feed. Users can share their creations and the prompts that they used.
This looks like potential ad inventory. Maybe we’re conditioned to think it, but every social feed eventually gets ads once it hits critical mass.
Meta Earnings Call
Well, Meta is thinking this, too. On the recent earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg said this:
First we build and scale a product, and then once it’s at scale then we focus on revenue. In this case, I think there will be a large opportunity to show product recommendations or ads…
This falls in line with what Meta said about Threads. First, the focus was on scale and now they’re focusing on revenue.
Does that mean the Meta AI app needs 350 Million users before it’s monetized, like Threads? Regardless, we’re likely a couple of years out from that possibility, if at all.
Something to watch.
