Creative Testing Feature Problems

Meta recently rolled out a new way to test creative when creating or editing an ad.

Creative Testing

It’s actually a good feature overall, but I have some issues with the way it works now.

How it Works

When you click the Set Up Test button, you’ll be able to generate up to five duplicates of the current to be used in the test.

You will then need to manually edit those ads, and they’ll be in the existing ad set. It won’t include the ad you’re starting this test from.

The Problems

This isn’t terrible if you’re starting an ad set from scratch. In fact, it might even be a good way to approach a new ad set with a test.

But it would be way better if you could select from existing ads, particularly when you want to test currently used copy and creative. If you’re duplicating ads in an existing ad set, it gives you some bad options.

If you want to test an existing combination of ad copy and creative, there will be duplicate ads in the same ads set. That’s messy. And you have to create them from scratch, which could be a lot of unnecessary work.

This feature would be way better if we had the option of testing existing ads. It’s otherwise a bit of a headache.
